I finally got to see Mockingjay Pt. 1 this evening and gosh, it was worth the wait.
I've avoided reading any in-depth reviews of it, but I had got the sense online that it had received a bit of a lack-lustre response. I loved it! I thought it was dark, surprising, and pleasingly under-played. I've read the book, so I know what's going on, and I think this film did justice to the dark tone of the final installment. There are excellent performances from Jennifer Lawrence, Julianne Moore and the sorely missed Philip Seymour Hoffman, and the tone and pacing of the film are really refreshing for a young adult blockbuster like this.
I'd been a bit apprehensive of the split between part one and two, but judging from this film, it's serving the story well. I now really can't wait for the finale!
